Mourad Darwish (b. 1986, Beheira, Egypt) is an Egyptian painter and mural artist whose work explores contemporary visual language through painting and large scale mural practice. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo, Helwan University, graduating first in his class with highest honors in 2008 from the Department of Painting, Mural Division.

Following his graduation, Darwish joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University in 2009 as a teaching assistant in the Painting Department. His academic research focuses on contemporary mural expression and its philosophical foundations. In 2015 he received his Master’s degree in Mural Painting, presenting a thesis titled “Graffiti Art and Its Development in Modern America.” He later advanced to Assistant Lecturer in 2016.

In 2023, Darwish completed his PhD in Mural Painting, with a dissertation examining “Intentionality and Spontaneity in Contemporary Mural Painting from a Phenomenological Perspective and Their Impact on Creative Expression.”

Darwish is a member of the Egyptian Syndicate of Plastic Artists and has participated in numerous exhibitions and cultural programs across Egypt. His group exhibition history includes the 21st Youth Salon, the Pioneers Exhibition at the Society of Lovers of Fine Arts, the University Youth Week exhibitions, and the Abu Simbel Symposium. His work has also appeared in exhibitions such as “Abu Simbel in the Eyes of Artists” at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and several curated shows at Helwan University.

Alongside his exhibition work, Darwish has been active in Egypt’s cultural and academic community. He has served as a jury member for the national Ibdaa Creativity Competition organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports from 2020 through 2024, and worked as an assistant commissioner for the Youth Salon in 2024. He has also conducted numerous workshops, lectures, and seminars through institutions affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

Darwish has presented several solo exhibitions, including “Murabba” (2018), “Tani Marra” (2019), and “Number 3” (2025). His work reflects a sustained exploration of mural language, painterly abstraction, and contemporary visual storytelling within Egyptian art.

Today, Mourad Darwish continues to paint, teach, and mentor emerging artists while developing new bodies of work that bridge academic research with expressive contemporary practice.
