Still Life 6 – Basket and Green Pitcher with Fruit

Basket and Green Pitcher with Fruit by Mourad Darwish organizes a still life around a red woven basket and a rounded green pitcher. An orange container rises behind them, while a plate of cut citrus occupies the foreground. Smaller cups and gray draped cloth complete the closely gathered arrangement.

Angular purple and yellow passages create an active background around the more rounded objects. The mixed-media handling gives containers, fruit, and cloth a shared expressive surface, while their individual shapes remain clear. Red and green provide a strong central contrast, with orange and yellow adding warmth around it.

The arrangement uses changes of height to create depth. The taller rear container draws attention upward, while the citrus plate brings it back toward the front. Draped fabric introduces a softer rhythm between the firmer objects, allowing the eye to travel through the grouping rather than settle on one isolated item.

The work finds visual energy in familiar domestic things. Its bold colors make an immediate impression, while closer looking reveals the smaller relationships between cups, fruit, and folds of cloth. Basket and Green Pitcher with Fruit offers a lively still life in which varied objects and angular color create a coherent, expressive interior scene.
